Car History (part.2) - Tatra Tatraplan 600 : 1952

The Tatra 600 was produced from 1947 to 1952. It evolved from the Tatra 97, which was in production from 1937 to 1939. Tatra produced 6342 Tatra Trataplan 600.

-4 cylinder, Boxer (flat engine), air cooled, 55 hp@4000 rpm
-overhead valves, 2 double Solx carburetors
-the displacement is 1952 cm
-maximum speed is 85 mph
-gearbox: 4 speed all synchomesh - 1 reverse

The engine and the gearbox are mounted on the rear of the car. The car seats 5 people including the driver.

The history of Tatra.
Tatra started manufacturing cars and trucks in 1897 which makes it a 104 year old company. Tatra is still in business and is located in the town of Koprivnice in the former Czechoslovakia, now the Czech Republic. An interesting fact in history is that the Tatra V570 is the predecessor to the V.W. Bug (Beetle). The V570 was first shown at the 1931 Paris, France Autoshow. It has an air-cooled engine in the rear, a maximum speed of 55 mph and seats 4 people.
