The strength of the book is its narrative inventiveness. You find yourself in a fully realized world, populated by “marines,” police, civilians, Zealots. I wish we learned more about who the Zealots are, what motivates them (this is a missed opportunity), but who the confederation is, its officials, its defenders, its mistakes, all this is played out in great detail and to great effect.
